Our instrument collection is thoughtfully curated to support developing musicians with reliable, well-set-up instruments at accessible price points.
All instruments are carefully selected and maintained with students in mind, ensuring consistency, playability, and peace of mind for families.

Monthly Rentals
Every instrument comes with a professional fitting and includes:

Maintenance Plan
included
Coverage includes one string change each year, setup of the instrument by a professional luthier, and basic upkeep from normal wear and tear on the instrument.
Rent-To-Own
apply 12 months
100% of the monthly rent is credited towards the purchase up to the first year. Full credit towards instrument swaps, upgrades, and size-ups.
Rental & maintenance pricing
Instrument rentals
Violin and viola rentals are $35 per month, with a one-time $35 setup fee due at the start of the rental. Cello rentals are $55 per month, with a one-time $35 setup fee due at the start of the rental.
The setup fee covers instrument preparation, sizing, setup adjustments, and administrative processing.
Maintenance services
One string change a year is included in the rental maintenance plan.
String changes (violin, viola, cello): $12 per string · $42 full set
New strings (violin only): $20 per string · $72 full set
Bridge reset: assessed in studio
Late cancellation or rescheduling
Appointments require at least 24 hours’ notice to reschedule. Appointments canceled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours’ notice are subject to a $30 fee.
FAQs
What instruments do you offer for rent?
We offer high-quality student violins in sizes 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and 4/4. Fractional violas use the same fractional sizes as violins.
Cello sizes: 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and 4/4.
All instruments are professionally set up and maintained to support healthy technique and confident playing.
How do I start a new rental?
All new rentals are by appointment only.
You can schedule a New Rental Instrument Appointment directly through our website.
During your appointment, we’ll confirm sizing, prepare the instrument, and review care and rental policies.
What is required to leave with an instrument?
To complete your rental, a signed rental agreement and an active payment subscription must be on file before leaving the studio with the instrument.
What if my child grows and needs a different size?
If your child grows, we’re happy to exchange your current rental for the appropriate size, pending availability. Size changes are handled by appointment.
Do you offer maintenance or adjustments?
Yes — for current South Bay Music Conservatory rental instruments, we can assist with:
String replacements
Bridge resets
Basic tuning help
For more advanced repairs or adjustments, we recommend working with a professional luthier.
Do you sell accessories like shoulder rests or rosin?
No. We do not sell shoulder rests or other retail accessories. We keep a limited number of strings in stock for rental support only.
Do I need an appointment for maintenance or sizing help?
Yes. All rental services — including maintenance and size exchanges — are by appointment only to ensure availability and proper setup time.
What is your cancellation policy?
Appointments require at least 24 hours’ notice to reschedule. For shorter notice, the fee listed in Rental & maintenance pricing applies.
